A man went to prison and forgot about a cat locked in the house: she miraculously waited for his release (4 photos)
According to the inspector, if it weren't for a prison warder who passed on the information and a dripping tap in the kitchen, the animal would not have made it out of the house alive.
A black and white cat named Luna was rescued after her owner ended up in Durham Prison and completely forgot about her. The animal survived for more than a month in a rubbish-strewn house in Middlesbrough, England, drinking water from a leaky tap and eating dry pasta from a cupboard. Luckily, the cat was found and saved in time.
Harry Palmer, a spokesman for the RSPCA, later gave his version of events.
"The floor was completely covered in piles of rubbish, clothes and household items. We found the cat curled up under a chair. It looked like she had eaten packets of dry pasta and other food she had scavenged from the cupboard. At first I thought she hadn't survived after so many weeks of living in such conditions. Amazingly, despite everything, she put up a good fight and is now putting on weight quickly once she has been given proper care. If it hadn't been for a prison officer who passed on the information and a dripping tap in the kitchen, she would not have made it out alive," he said.
The pet was later examined by a veterinarian. Cattery assistant Beverly Dunn adds: "Cats come into our care for a variety of reasons, but Luna's story was particularly sad and upsetting to our team."
The cat has reportedly been given to a new owner named Marian.
"I am so happy I adopted Luna. I hope she will have the best life in the world. She loves to cuddle with me, although she usually can't sit still for long. It makes me sad when I think about her past, but she is safe now," the woman commented.
