10 decisions you shouldn't make regarding your dog (11 photos)
A dog is a man's best friend. But a pet is also a huge responsibility.
After a puppy appears in the house, the owner tries to give the little friend the maximum - the best food, high-quality medical care and, of course, love. Yes, love and medical care work wonders, but without training, some pets can grow up unhappy. Sometimes we suggest that the dog do something that seems logical and correct to us. But dogs do not appreciate such initiative, since they categorically do not like certain things and actions.
1. Forcing a dog to interact with other dogs it doesn't like
We don't like interacting with people we don't like. Dogs don't either. Learning to pick up on their cues can prevent an awkward situation from becoming unpleasant. That's why early socialization is so important.
2. No rules of conduct
If you raise a child without rules and restrictions, he will become a person who is not all right in the head. The same goes for puppies. Dogs need order and rules, because when life is predictable, it is less stressful.
3. Cuddling
Not all dogs like to be hugged. They don't see it as affection, but as an act of dominance. So when you hug a puppy, he may feel threatened and pull away to assert his dominance.
4. Using mostly words, not gestures
This can be confusing for dogs. They respond primarily to body language, so if you tell your dog to "stop" and then lean toward them with your hand outstretched, you are essentially telling them that you want them to come play. So it is better to use body language rather than words when communicating with your dog.
5. No Exploration
When a dog is on a leash, they should be able to explore and sniff around. Their sense of smell is very important for learning about the world, so if you do not give them this opportunity, they may become anxious.
6. Constantly stroking the head
Frequent stroking of the dog's head or muzzle is a minus. Think about it: would you like it if someone accidentally started putting their hands on your face? Dogs feel the same way.
7. Boredom
If your dog is chewing on shoes, boxes, ruining furniture, or anything else, it's probably because he's bored. Be sure to play with your pet when you get home. Dogs wait all day for their humans to return, and if you don't pay attention to them, they get incredibly bored.
8. Eye contact with an unfamiliar dog
This can be perceived as an act of aggression or dominance. Dogs do not like it when a stranger looks them in the eye.
9. Tight leash
Constant tugging on the leash increases stress levels. Give the dog some freedom, otherwise it will be constantly tense and will try to defend itself and protect itself.
10. Intentionally Annoying and Provoking Aggression
If you occasionally do things to tease your dog because you think it's funny, stop. The truth is that any dog can be angered. And there's no telling what might happen next. It can lead to serious behavioral problems and even injuries.
