Scary simulation of what happened to a man who was swallowed alive by a whale (3 photos + 1 video)
Anyone who has seen the Disney movie Pinocchio has imagined being swallowed by a whale. It seems like a fantasy scenario, but for Michael Packard, it became reality.
In 2021, an American man and a friend were lobstering off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. While diving, he felt a strong blow and darkness fell.
Michael initially thought he was being attacked by a great white shark, but he didn't notice any sharp teeth
"There was water all around me, and I felt pressure all over my body. And I was just moving through the water at a tremendous speed," the man recalled. "Oh my God, I'm in the mouth of a whale, and it's trying to swallow me. This is the end, I'm going to die. All I could think about was my sons, who are 12 and 15."
According to Packard, he was in the whale's mouth for 30 to 40 seconds. The man began to struggle, and eventually the animal spat him out.
"I saw a light, the whale started thrashing around, and the next thing I knew I was out."
A friend pulled Packard on board, and he suffered severe bruises and a dislocated knee.
Blogger Zach D. created a simulation of the event:
Humpback whales, according to an expert, are not aggressive animals.
Juke Robbins, director of humpback whale research at the Coastal Research Center in Provincetown, said, "Based on the events described, it appears that the whale did this by mistake."
Humpback whales swallowing humans are rare.
By comparison, there are about 63 unprovoked shark attacks each year, with 14 fatalities this year.
