Archaeologists in Turkey have discovered the likely burial site of St. Nicholas, also known as Saint Nicholas or Saint Nicholas.
Scientists have unearthed the sarcophagus during ongoing excavations at the Church of St. Nicholas in Demre, Antalya Province
St. Nicholas is one of the most famous Christian saints. He lived in the 4th century AD and was the archbishop of the ancient city of Myra in Lycia. Saint Nicholas is considered the patron saint of children and the prototype of Santa Claus.

According to the researchers, the sarcophagus, which is about two meters long, is made of limestone. It was found about two meters below the surface.
Archaeologists have begun a detailed study of the exterior of the burial artifact.
"Our greatest hope is to find an inscription on the sarcophagus. This will help clarify the contents of the burial and allow us to determine the exact period to which it belongs,” Fatma Findik, associate professor at Hatay Mustafa Kemal Ebru University and head of the excavations, told reporters.
The scientists noted that the find was an important discovery for both science and religious communities. It offers a deeper understanding of the final resting place of St. Nicholas.
