A two-meter rock carving of a boat with people on board was discovered in Sweden (3 photos)
Swedish archaeologists who explored the area near complex of petroglyphs in the commune of Tanum (Vastra Götaland county), discovered rock with previously unknown works of ancient art, hidden from view under the moss.
On a plane about 15 meters long, scientists discovered approximately 40 ancient rock paintings, including 13 boats, nine horses, seven men and four chariots.
Among them, very large petroglyphs stand out: almost a two-meter boat with people on board and a one-meter anthropomorphic figure.
The researchers noted that the petroglyphs are located in unusual place - on an almost vertical rocky ledge. According to them, when these images were created (about 2700 years ago), this the area was the shore of a fjord. Apparently the ancient authors made petroglyphs directly from the boats, which explains why some of them today are at a height of several meters. Previously in this area have already discovered several thousand rock carvings, whose age, according to scientists estimate is about 2500 to 3700 years.
