Couple Rescues Abandoned Dogs in Tulsa, Oklahoma
When Rachel was 12 years old when she met a dog named Odie on the street and took her home
"I've loved animals since I was a child! My first rescued pet was Odie, a dog I found at a local gas station when I was 12. That's when the dream of helping homeless animals was born in me, and I haven't been able to stop since," the woman says.
Now Rachel's house is full of noise and fun: the couple has two children and twelve tails
Of course, there are enough difficulties, but the woman is sure: "The main thing is regime"
"I am convinced that animals (and children) need a proper daily routine. The hardest part is to give everyone equal and sufficient attention, to train. Again, a daily routine helps a lot with this."
When a family finds a dog, they take it to the vet
"We check to see if there is a microchip. Then we post the information on all social networks and put up leaflets"
The dog is immediately bathed and treated for fleas and ticks
"We conduct a thorough veterinary examination, including vaccinations, heartworm testing, deworming and spaying or neutering, depending on the sex of the animal. The rehabilitation process is certainly individual for each dog, but I try to closely observe its behavior and make the necessary adjustments"
Only after complete recovery the dog is introduced to other pets
"Integration into the team helps them restore their mental health. Friends make a huge difference!"
"Dogs taught me patience"
"Every dog is an individual, and you need to find a common language with them. They teach me patience and willingness to take responsibility for any shortcomings in training. In addition, they showed me unconditional love. "There's nothing like the love of a rescue dog," Rachel concluded.
