Just recently, Bhutan hosted the closing ceremony of the National Dog Population Management Project.
Bhutan has officially become the first country in the world to completely solve the problem of stray dogs. All stray dogs have been vaccinated and sterilized, and now they do not pose any threat to the residents of the country. The national project to manage the dog population and combat rabies was carried out together with the global charity Humane Society International (HSI), Gulf News reports.
At the project's closing ceremony, Prime Minister Tshering presented HSI with a plaque. The project was opened in 2009. In 14 years of intensive, targeted spaying and neutering efforts, more than 150,000 stray dogs have been sterilized and 32,000 pet dogs have been microchipped.
