Mike Tyson lost a fight with blogger Jake Paul (4 photos + 4 video)
Let us recall that Iron Mike last fought professionally 20 years ago.
Former undisputed world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was defeated in a boxing match by American blogger Jake Paul. The fight took place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The fight lasted eight rounds and ended in a unanimous decision for Paul.
This fight was supposed to take place in the summer, on June 20, but was postponed due to Tyson's health. At the last moment, the boxer's stomach ulcer worsened, and doctors recommended that he wait before entering the ring.
Tyson is 31 years older than his opponent, and he had his last professional fight in 2005 against Kevin McBride (by the way, Tyson also lost then). In 2010, the boxer went out for an exhibition fight with former champion Roy Jones Jr., and that fight ended in a draw.
Tyson accepted the blogger's offer back in March. The boxer said that it was important for him to continue taking risks and testing himself even at such an age. Perhaps he was relying on his experience and, of course, expected to win. Considering that Paul is not a professional boxer, and he took up the sport not so long ago. But he trained actively, became a professional, organized a promotion and won three mixed martial artists in boxing fights at the end of his career: Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley.
In the current fight, Tyson actively held out for two rounds, and the opponent, noticing that Iron Mike was getting tired, did not rush things.
The judges got the impression that Paul was taking care of Tyson and did not act at full strength, and at the end he even hugged the boxer, paying tribute to the merits of the sports veteran.
And many considered the fight rather boring, despite the active announcement, when before the weigh-in Tyson slapped Paul, and the cameraman accidentally showed Iron Mike's bare buttocks.
Iron Mike explained the slap by saying that the upstart stepped on his finger when Tyson was in socks and Paul in sneakers. However, journalists believe that the sports veteran simply did not want to stir up a scandal and made up a reason. In the video, it is noticeable that Paul showed his opponent a gorilla. Knowing Tyson's character, one could expect anything, and not just a slap.
Mike Tyson has had 59 fights in his career, won 50 (44 by knockout), suffered seven losses, and two fights were declared no contest. Paul has had 12 boxing matches and won 11 with one loss.
Paul earned $40 million for the fight with Tyson, his opponent's fee was 2 times less.
