In the US, a blind dog saved a man from a snake (4 photos + 1 video)
11-year-old dog Mugan, who lives in a kennel in Utah, discovered a snake while walking with volunteer Dan Fishbein and drew the man's attention to the reptile.
"We were walking along one of the main dog walking trails. I was focused on keeping an eye on Mugan," Dan says.
The thing is, Mugan is practically blind. Veterinarians say that now he only sees outlines and shadows. The dog has been in this shelter for several years. Recently, the dog's vision began to deteriorate, and during an examination, they discovered a degenerative eye disease, also known as "acquired retinal degeneration." Veterinarians prescribed eye drops for Mugan, but the treatment did not help and his vision continued to deteriorate.
The shelter says that at first this was a little scary for the dog, who has a playful nature and is used to leading an active lifestyle. But over time, Mugan adapted to the new circumstances, maintaining his cheerful spirit.
That's why Dan keeps a close eye on Mugan during walks: the dog can accidentally hurt himself. "I'm always focused on where his head is, because he can bump into something. "I don't want him to get hurt," Dan explains.
During the walk, the man didn't notice that there was a snake hidden in the grass. "It was tightly coiled and well camouflaged. Moogan started pulling to the right and was about to approach the snake," Fishbein says of the moment.
"If Moogan hadn't noticed the snake, it's likely that I would have run into it, which could have ended badly," he adds.
Specialists were called in to help the snake and moved it to a safe place.
According to the shelter's website, Mugan is currently looking for an owner. "He is friendly and curious. He still loves his toys, even though he is old. I always announce when I enter his room so he doesn't get scared. He is very curious on walks, sniffing everything," Fishbein says about how Mugan is doing now.
