Zoo of the Future and its non-standard content (15 photos + 1 video)
The sun, moon, and stars coexist peacefully with animals, humans, and their tools in this magical sculpture park.
About 6 kilometers south of Trinidad, Uruguay, lies the amazing Zooilógico del Futuro - the zoo of the future. Animals such as deer, ducks, and capybaras nestle next to tools such as knives, axes, and saws, carved from wrought iron by local artist Martin Arregui.
The "Zoo of the Future" was opened in 1991 as part of a campaign to preserve the unique local nature. The sculpture park, consisting of 13 objects, tells about the dangers that uncontrolled hunting and other activities that negatively affect wildlife are fraught with. Metal sculptures from 3 to 3.5 meters high depict various combinations of animals and hand tools, and are somewhat reminiscent of shadow theater figures connected together.
The animals on display include a snail, deer, hare, partridge, owl, capybara, dove, fox, duck, and flying squirrel. There is also a man and woman holding hands.
This unusual place is an artistic expression of the threat of human power over the life of the planet. The goal of its creation was to raise awareness of the importance of preventing zoos of the future from becoming just that - cold and sad metallic still lifes.
