Found after 25 years: a woman became a police officer to punish her father's killer (2 photos + 1 video)

Gislaine realized her dream just two months after starting her career as a police officer.





Givaldo José Vicente de Deus was shot dead on February 16, 1999, after a heated argument in a bar in the Brazilian city of Boa Vista. The man had argued with a certain Raimundo Alves Gomes over a debt of 150 Brazilian reals (equivalent to $29 in 1999).

At some point, Gomez, who wanted to get his money back, left the establishment for a few minutes, and then returned with a gun and shot Givaldo, a father of five, at point-blank range. After that, the attacker fled the scene of the crime.

Vicente de Deus' family did not lose hope of achieving justice, and his eldest daughter, Gislaine, who was only nine years old at the time, dedicated her life to finding her father's killer.

"This man broke up a family with five children. Our mother had to put in a lot of effort to raise us," she said in an interview with the Brazilian publication Nova1.

Gislaine, as the eldest of five children, was forced to help her mother take care of her younger brothers and sisters, as well as do housework.

At 18, after graduating from high school, she enrolled in law school and became a licensed attorney seven years later. However, in 2022, she abandoned her legal career to become a police officer, and two years later, on July 19, 2024, she passed the exam and was officially appointed as a police investigator. Her first request was to be assigned to the homicide department to finally find Raimundo Alves Gomes.

On September 25, just two months into her career as a police officer, Ghislaine realized her dream. She found and arrested her father's killer on a farm in the Nova Cidade region near Boa Vista.



"We didn't believe that we would be able to wait for this moment. I cried with relief, because after so many years, for the first time I felt a huge stone fall from my shoulders," the policewoman admitted.
