David Bowie, a British singer and composer, has been one of the top ten most successful artists in the history of British popular music throughout his career. His albums have sold 136 million copies. 
After a long and difficult illness, he died at the age of 69 in his home on Lafayette Street in New York and even after his death he managed to receive the BRIT Awards for Best British Male Artist. Incidentally, he was the first person to receive this award posthumously.
