Corporate hypocrisy: environmentalists condemned the CEO of Starbucks, who plans to fly to work three times a week on a private jet (3 photos)

Brian Niccol doesn't want to move closer to the office, the company, and he doesn't give a damn about environmentalists.

Brian Niccol, who previously headed Chipotle, was recently appointed CEO of Starbucks. He will begin his duties in early September, and has already announced that he prefers to get to work on a company jet. By the way, Niccol has already been provided with one, as well as a car, and there are no restrictions on flights.

Niccol lives in California, and the company's headquarters are in Seattle, but no one is forcing him to move.

The CEO's home is about 1,500 kilometers from his office. He will have to fly back and forth several times a week. This does not bother the newly minted CEO at all, but environmental activists are extremely outraged.

Greenpeace members are calling for a ban on private jets, because, firstly, they consider them a symbol of social and climate injustice. This was stated to the New York Daily News by Clara Thompson, a leading campaigner for the international environmental organization Greenpeace.

Secondly, they call Niccol's decision unjustified, because private jets produce more CO2 emissions than commercial flights. And they are also perplexed: Starbucks has always supported eco-initiatives, and now there is such a misunderstanding.

Social media also joined in the criticism of Starbucks. Internet users consider the company's policy hypocritical. On the one hand, coffee shops offer paper straws instead of plastic ones to reduce their carbon footprint, on the other, they provide their director with a plane for needs.

Meanwhile, Niccol is happy with everything. Niccol, 50, will be paid a base salary of $1.6 million per year, and he will have the opportunity to receive an annual cash bonus, which can vary from $3.6 million to $7.2 million, depending on his performance. He will also be entitled to annual equity awards of up to $23 million. And a company jet that he can use for personal and corporate purposes. Life is good, and what do some environmental activists have to do with it?
