Chinese "anti-sleep" lasers on the highway - do they help against accidents (3 photos + 1 video)
China has introduced Antisleep trial installations on its Qingdao-Jinchuan Highway. Their main goal is to reduce the frequency of accidents involving trucks that often carry goods all night long.
It really shines far, like artificial northern lights. Only it's not pretty.
The installations are huge arches with powerful lasers that pierce the sky right in front of speeding trucks. Their piercing bright light, breaking the endless night, should wake up even a driver who is almost asleep.
China is a country of logistics. Huge factories are located far from large cities, goods from them are sent every day to various warehouses - including Aliexpress, Taobao, and from there all over the world. The highways here, especially from key production facilities, never sleep. But the drivers, under such a load, often do.
You can watch it in action if you have already sped up YouTube back:
Reviews from those who have had the chance to drive on such highways are very mixed.
Some drivers agreed that the sight of lasers invigorated them. And not only with the blinding light, but also revived their attention and made the brain work more actively, because the sight is bright and unusual.
But most were outraged. Because the lasers are flashing and flickering too often, causing people to feel dizzy and almost have epileptic seizures. How can you sleep when you're having an attack?
Note - the highway is not lit, and an alien-green laser is shining at you from afar. Does this really MAKE driving at night EASIER?
By the way, there are no lighting poles at the point where the lasers shine. That is, drivers are driving on a dark highway, but a laser is flickering in the sky like the northern lights. It's probably cheaper this way than to properly light the entire highway. And there are a lot of highways in China, putting up poles along all of them would ruin you.
Last year, by the way, many posted photos with such installations, but not everyone understood what they were for. They assumed anti-drone night protection or preparation for a huge all-Chinese rave.
From afar, it looks like a prison of the future in a dystopian movie that tracks down airships or something like that
The lasers are currently working in test mode to collect statistics. It is quite easy to assess whether there have been fewer accidents. If the indicators are successful, such laser shows will sparkle all over the country.
The idea itself seems very funny to me, imagine: China is a country of strobe highways. There will be another unique attraction.
