Cow bombing is a funny form of Indian protest (6 photos)

Do you know what Hindus do when they are dissatisfied with the authorities or the government? Do they go to rallies? Are they writing posters? Oh, they are much more creative - they release cows!

What is a big cow attack?

As you know, in India cows are sacred. This means that they cannot be killed or beaten, but where the herd passes, a dense formation of fresh cow dung will remain. This can ruin any beautiful road or garden.

How did the Indians come up with this?

It all started when cow skin disease appeared in Gujarat a few years ago and quickly spread through farm herds. This disease led to the death of livestock; 57 thousand cows died throughout the country in a year.

As you can see, the grass was specially picked and thrown in front of the government building

But the government did not take any action, and farmers (and owners of cow shelters) were angry. They simply released their cows onto the streets or drove their herds to administrative buildings, causing a real collapse in the towns.

After all, cows made it difficult not only to drive on the roads, but even to walk! Many people began filming and uploading videos of mass cow chaos onto the Internet. Footage of a herd of cows piling into the Banaskantha administration building in Gujarat has gone especially viral. They threw grass there so that the cows would not be in a hurry to leave.

You just can’t look at some drills without tears, they’re like washboards

And everyone liked it

There are quite a few cow shelters in India. These are small subsidized non-profit organizations that run a total of 1,800 shelters for poor stray cows. After all, in India there are cold states, and in winter stray cows starve and freeze. Have you seen skinny cows in photographs? These are poor homeless people, so they are rescued and kept in shelters.

Residents of the Valedi shelter lead their flock to protest

Since 2017, the government has spent about $152 million to create shelters for abandoned livestock. In Gujarat, $61 million has been allocated this year to run shelters for cows and other animals. And all this wealth in a difficult period turns against the government itself.

Because these shelters make it very easy to rent a herd of cows. And more often than not, they simply show up in a crowd as part of a riot and take over a herd of cows in order to cause a commotion or ruin the lawn in front of some important building.

Cows are a big traffic problem in India even without organizing a protest.

In India, such incidents were called “cow bombings” in the media. Most often they are related to farming issues, animal health or new legislation relating to animal husbandry or disease treatment. It’s just that people who care about this have more direct access to such shelters with cows.

And most importantly, the cow cannot be arrested. Even if the police collect cows into a herd, sooner or later they are returned to their place at the shelter. And tomorrow they will be led to the administration building again, one person is enough for this! And they won’t be confiscated, because the cows are nobody’s property anyway, and there’s nowhere to put them!

See the calf, cows are breeding uncontrollably right in the cities
