A plastic surgeon from Florida killed his wife on the operating table (8 photos)

Last November, Benjamin Jacob Brown performed yet another plastic surgery on his 33-year-old wife, Hillary Ellington. When the woman's heart stopped, the surgeon refused to call emergency services for almost 20 minutes.

On November 21, 2023, an ambulance was called to Restore Plastic Surgery Clinic in Gulf Breeze, Florida. The mother of three was rushed to a local hospital where she was placed on life support but died a week later.

Law enforcement authorities began a large-scale investigation and requested an arrest warrant for Benjamin. Last Friday, the court charged him with negligent homicide.

On the ill-fated day, the woman was scheduled to undergo surgery to remove scars on her abdomen, bilateral liposuction of her arms, injections in her lips and correction of her ears.

As the medical commission found, on the morning before the operation, Hillary, who does not have a medical education, “prepared” the IVs herself and “swallowed a handful of multi-colored pills, including Valium.” The husband then administered painkillers without checking what his wife had taken. When he began the liposuction procedure, Hillary became "restless, her legs were shaking."

The woman said that everything was swimming before her eyes. However, after a short break, the surgeon moved on to injections into the lips, ignoring signs of lidocaine toxicity.

"Dr. Brown continued to administer lidocaine/xylocaine" when Hilary Brown became unresponsive and began to convulse, the report states.

"Over the next 10 to 20 minutes, the nurse asked Dr. Brown if he should call 911, and he said 'no' or 'wait.'

Instead of calling an ambulance, the plastic surgeon "shouted" at staff, demanding to know "what medicine" his wife was taking.

After 10-20 minutes, Benjamin finally asked the nurse to call 911.

The patient was taken to the intensive care unit at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, where she spent a week in a coma before dying. Hillary Brown's cause of death was "complications from lidocaine toxicity."

Following an investigation, the Florida Department of Health revoked the 41-year-old surgeon's license.

"Dr. Brown's disregard for the safety of patients, even his own wife, indicates that he is unwilling or unable to provide adequate care," the board said.

Hillary's father, Marty Ellington, told the Pensacola News Journal how the doctor's "ego and arrogance" led to his daughter's death.

"My family was forever plunged into a sea of tears because of the actions of one careless person. Ego and arrogance overshadowed the need for help, prolonged oxygen deprivation of her brain, which ultimately led to death. Ben Brown took my mother from my grandchildren, my only daughter and our brightest star. Hillary sacrificed herself so that Ben Brown could never hurt anyone else. Maybe he'll get the attention he deserves in prison."

The surgeon faces life imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
