“They can destroy the city”: “alien” jellyfish and crabs were spotted on the beach (4 photos)
One visitor to Barmouth Beach in Wales has scared people with her photos of what's hidden beneath the waves. Amy Carter's boyfriend spotted dog-sized jellyfish and large "alien" crabs on the sand.
Locals say they will never swim in the sea again after one tourist shared her findings.
Tourist Amy Carter has caused a stir on social media after sharing photos taken by her partner Scott Southey. A giant jellyfish and a spider crab are among the marine life that has Brits wading into the water at Barmouth Beach in North Wales in terror. Beachgoers called it an “alien invasion” and “a complete nightmare.”
Social media users shared their opinions in the comments.
“Oh my God! Imagine that you are swimming next to a jellyfish of this size. I would go crazy! They are just huge”, “This is the last time I go into the sea”, “This crab can wipe out an entire city from the face of the earth”, “I have seen many on beaches. It’s amazing what nature shows us,” they wrote.
The publication notes that the jellyfish shown in the photo is a barrel jellyfish, and despite its terrifying size and appearance, its stings are usually not dangerous. But a crab covered in mussels is a "common sight" on British beaches at this time of year, according to one marine life expert.
"We had a short holiday this week and were just walking along the beach. We always see little crabs and jellyfish on the rocks and sand, but I was shocked to see the size. I've been coming to Barmouth and Tal-y-Bont before almost 50 years old and this is the largest jellyfish I have ever seen. I had to put my hand next to it for scale. It’s amazing to see real giants of the deep,” Amy told British media.
