At a time when Hollywood had not yet become an abode of freaks and tolerance, one of its brightest but most reserved stars was her – Myrna Loy.





With her understated beauty, mesmerizing grace and impeccable acting skills, Loy has graced the screen for over four decades. And she left an indelible mark on cinema, becoming one of the most beloved and influential actresses of her era.



Born Myrna Adele Williams on August 2, 1905, in Helena, Montana, Loy's rise to fame began in the scenic climes of the West.

Growing up in a conservative and strict family, the girl faced opposition. She was not allowed to realize her dream of becoming an artist. But her passion for art remained strong, and the girl chose a career as a dancer and actress.





She met set designer Natasha Rambova, who helped her pass screen tests, and began getting small roles. After several roles in silent films, Loy began her professional career as an actress.



"The Thin Man"

At first she appeared in specific images, playing vampires or Asians. But her career prospects improved significantly after her role as Nora Charles in The Thin Man (1934).

This role propelled her development, and she became known as a versatile actress, skilled in both drama and comedy.



Loy's popularity peaked in the 1940s, when she starred in films such as The Thin Man Drives Home, The Best Years of Our Lives, The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer and Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House.



She appeared in only a few films in the 1950s, including the lead role in the comedy Cheaper by the Dozen (1950), as well as supporting roles in The Ambassador's Daughter (1956) and the drama The O.C.

From 1960 to 1981, she starred in only eight films, after which she ended her acting career.

Although Loy was never nominated for an Oscar, she received an honorary award in March 1991 for her work on and off film, including as director of military and naval support for the Red Cross during World War II.

Throughout her career, the media has consistently celebrated Loy's talent, beauty and charisma. She graced the covers of countless magazines and became a symbol of elegance and sophistication in an era of movie star adoration.
