A rare minibus camper was put up for sale in the Netherlands (35 photos)
An interesting British rarity has been found in the caches of a classic car dealer in the Netherlands. This is a Bedford CA minibus converted into a camper van by Martin-Walter, a coachbuilder in Kent. This modification even has its own name Dormobile. It was valued at 40 thousand euros. 
The recipe for a classic British campervan is quite simple. Craftsmen cut off part of the original roof and replaced it with a lift-up roof with a pair of windows. Thanks to this, you can stand upright inside the Dormobile, as well as organize two sleeping places on the built-in folding beds.
In total, the model is designed for four passengers. In the rear there are two vinyl-upholstered chairs, which, together with a pair of front seats, transform into beds for the remaining two occupants.
Inside there is also a compact kitchen with a sink, a gas burner and a refrigerator hidden in one of the drawers. And on the hinged doors you can see pockets for various small items.
The Dormobile is powered by a simple 1.6-liter gasoline engine mated to a manual transmission. Access to the engine, by the way, is from inside the car.
The basic Bedford CA was a fairly popular model both in the UK itself and in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Various modifications of the chassis were produced from 1952 to 1969. Over 17 years, about 370 thousand units were produced. However, how many of them eventually turned into campers is not known for certain. Dormobile sellers claim that not very many of them have survived to this day, especially in good condition. Therefore, a specific example from 1961 is valued at 40 thousand euros.
