In the USA, a Hyundai Ioniq 5 equipped with an autonomous driving system successfully passed the driver's license test.
Self-driving cars are facing dual pressure from both skeptical NGOs and neo-Luddites, who have repeatedly attacked robotaxis in the US, and regulators concerned about their safety for others.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), 66% of Americans are wary of driverless vehicles, 25% are unsure of their capabilities and only 9% trust driverless taxis.
To help alleviate doubts, Hyundai sent one of its self-driving cars to take a driver's test in Las Vegas. The electric Ioniq 5 Robotaxi was created in collaboration with the American startup Motional, which specializes in autonomous driving technologies.
The lady examiner turned out to be strict: over 25 years of work, only 16% of cadets received permission to drive from her. It is alleged that she considered the actions of the car as if at that moment there was a person behind the wheel, assessing not only the accuracy and precision of driving and maneuvers, but also compliance with traffic rules and reaction time to changing road conditions.
The Ioniq 5 Robotaxi made a positive impression on the examiner, who gave the machine a passing grade. Nevertheless, the issued rights, of course, do not have legal force. Consider this a public service announcement for self-driving cars.
