25 treasures left by former owners on the streets of New York (26 photos)

In New York, there has long been a tradition of “stooping” - this is when, instead of throwing away unnecessary furniture or things, people leave them on the street. Whoever needs it will take it. I must say that among this street “trash” you often come across real treasures!

With over 8.3 million people living in New York City, it's not the cheapest place to live, so it's no surprise that stooping is so popular. After all, it’s simple, good for your wallet and environmentally friendly.

Firstly, there are a lot of people who want to get rid of unnecessary things. Leaving something on the sidewalk for others to take is much cheaper and faster than throwing it away, selling it, or donating it to charity. Simply put, it's less hassle.

Secondly, since New York is a very expensive city, some people try to cut costs wherever they can. Bringing home some cute furniture you found on the street can save you some money. If you are frugal and patient, you can decorate your entire home without spending a dime.
