During this time, the icebergs must decide who will come out to meet them.
Australian billionaire Clive Palmer has a lifelong dream - to recreate the iconic British transatlantic passenger ship Titanic and repeat the same route that Edward John Smith, the ship's first and only captain, failed to complete.
It was originally planned that Titanic 2 would set off on its maiden voyage back in 2016, but unforeseen circumstances prevented this. Then there were plans for 2022, but that didn’t work out either. Now the date has been set for 2027.
The billionaire held a press conference at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday, where he unveiled current designs for the vessel, which he said would be “far, far superior to the original.” He said tenders for the construction would be floated in June this year and contracts signed by December. He estimates that building a replica of the 56,000-tonne ship will cost up to £1 billion.
Clive Palmer assured the public that money for the project has already been collected and the start of recreating the legend will begin in early 2025. But in June 2027, Titanic 2 will set sail from Southampton and reach New York.
The capacity of the ship will be 2,500 people, and if you believe the adventurer himself, those wishing to buy a ticket have already exceeded several million.
