In Russia, a five-story dormitory collapsed before the eyes of eyewitnesses

In Chernogorsk, the roof and part of the wall of a local hostel collapsed. It was considered unsafe and no one lived in this part of the building. From another, 40 people were evacuated and will be temporarily housed in a hotel.
However, the rubble is still being checked - more than 100 employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, dog handlers and 26 pieces of equipment are working.
They report that there have been problems with this hostel for a long time - people even set up a tent city next to it and demanded that they be moved to normal housing. Some of the residents actually moved out and rented apartments. For this, local authorities compensated them $120 a month. But only if the person had previously entered into an official rental agreement with the dorm administration (the dorm management allegedly was in no hurry to sign such papers and was looking for people to whom they could rent out a room without any formalities). If this was not the case, no compensation was due.
Therefore, some continued to huddle in a building that, back in 2022, the human rights ombudsman in Khakassia called “horrifying.” Information about the lease, documents, etc. has not yet been confirmed by the prosecutor's check; everything is at the level of rumors from the local media. Therefore, we must wait for official comments from the security forces. So far there is only a message from the city administration.
