The moment a vape explodes next to a child (6 photos + 2 videos)

The camera captured the terrifying moment when the Elf Bar exploded just half a meter from the baby. The e-cigarette burst into flames while charging.

The mother said she went to the closet when she heard a loud noise and saw fire coming from the vape. The girl did not appear to be injured, but was very frightened.

The video was filmed in Oregon last year but has only just appeared online.

Elf Bar - the most popular electronic cigarette in the world

The Elf Bar, like most e-cigarettes, contains a lithium battery, which can explode if overheated as a result of charging or exposure to direct sunlight.

The footage shows the boy walking around the room while his little sister sits in a high chair in the kitchen. Then a bang is heard, and sparks begin to fly from the tabletop towards the girl.

"What's happening?" - Samantha Humphrey screams and runs into the room.

The woman immediately takes her daughter in her arms and examines her.

"Oh my God!" - exclaims the mother and extinguishes the flame.

Although the incident lasted only a few seconds, it was a stark reminder that vaping poses a deadly threat.

Electronic cigarettes are powered by a battery that powers the coil, which in turn heats the liquid, turning it into vapor.

Almost all e-cigarettes use lithium-ion batteries because they are lightweight and can hold a lot of energy.

The first prototype of a modern electronic cigarette was developed by Chinese pharmacist Hong Lik in 2003.

William Brown, 24, died in 2019 due to vaping.

Vapes hit the US market in 2007, but it took another seven years for the devices to become popular, which is when reports of explosions began to surface.

In 2019, a Texas man died from a vape explosion that cut his carotid artery.

William Brown purchased the device from Smoke & Vape DZ in Fort Worth on January 27th. After getting into the car, the man decided to try out the vape, but it exploded almost instantly. The fragments pierced the left carotid artery.

The moment an electronic cigarette explodes in your pocket

Last year, a woman named Marin also became a victim of Elf Bar.

She said that she bought a new vape and put it on charge, leaving it on her bed.

“About half an hour later, I went to bed and pulled the plug out of the socket. I tried to smoke, but it tasted like vomit,” Marin wrote on the forum.

"For some stupid reason I put it back on charge and within 5 minutes it exploded and started smoking heavily. It burned a 15cm deep hole in the new mattress."

Elf Bar is the most popular electronic cigarette in the world, which brought the manufacturer more than $271 million over the past year.

The World Health Organization has called for "swift action" to protect the population from the harm of e-cigarettes. Doctors refute the claim that vaping is a safer alternative to traditional tobacco smoking. Vaping has been associated with health problems including lung damage and heart disease.
