In Hawaii, a tourist fell from a cliff and survived (5 photos)
A 27-year-old tourist from Canada rented an SUV and went to watch the sunrise by the ocean. Around 3:30 a.m., his car went off the South Point cliff and became stuck on a cliff. Having got out of the cabin, the man fell into the water.
Luckily, the locals had set up camp on the beach the day before to go fishing in the morning. They called the rescue service. The tourist was pulled ashore.
One of the fishermen said that he was awakened by a friend who was almost hit by a tourist when he was sliding off a cliff.
“He said the car went off the cliff to his right,” says Mike Moody. “If he hadn’t seen that, the guy would have died 100 percent.”
The Jeep was overturned and the driver's side door was locked, he said.
"The driver's side door was jammed with a rock. The driver was upside down and hanging directly above the water. He probably didn't even know there was water underneath him. He just opened the door and fell straight into the water."
Despite the fall and strong current, the Canadian was able to swim to safety, where rescuers intercepted him.
The man was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and mild hypothermia.
"The roads are very dangerous on this side of the island. And if you don't know what you're doing, you can get into a lot of trouble," said a fisherman named Jason.
