In addition to the new folding top, the spider also features a redesigned power unit, the output of which has been increased by 20 hp, as well as a number of other improvements that will be applied to the platform coupe. Sales of the modernized supercar in both body types will start in the summer.
The spider's folding hard top is made of carbon fiber and composite materials. All its mechanisms are driven by eight servos, which fold it in 11 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. In total, the new roof added 62 kilograms to the Artura’s weight, but the company claims that the spider’s dry weight of 1,457 kilograms is a segment record.
Optionally, the roof can be equipped with an electrochromic glass insert with adjustable transparency, which can block up to 95% of sunlight. The rear of the supercar has optimized aerodynamic elements to improve cooling of the engine compartment.
The Artura's powertrain continues to consist of a three-liter turbocharged V6 and an electric motor. However, by recalibrating the internal combustion engine control unit, its output was increased. As a result, both engines collectively develop 700 hp. and 720 Nm. The new product will accelerate to 100 km/h in 3 seconds with a maximum speed of 330 km/h. The supercar will cover the drag quarter mile (402 meters) in 10.8 seconds. The electric range, which is provided by a 7.4-kilowatt battery, has been increased from 31 to 33 kilometers.
Among other improvements, McLaren mentions a redesigned eight-speed gearbox that provides 25% faster shifts, a new brake system and an active suspension with increased shock absorber response. In addition, the body finishing options have been expanded: now, for example, in addition to new body colors, you can order a darkened design.
Owners of pre-restyling Artura coupes will be able to boost the power plants of their cars to the current power levels for free, but to do this they will have to visit a dealer.
