The last moments of the life of a man who tried to overcome Niagara Falls on a jet ski (5 photos + 1 video)

Niagara Falls has a powerful attraction, especially if you are a thrill-seeker. In 1995, one such daredevil named Robert Overacker attempted a stunt - flying over the waterfall on a jet ski and using a parachute to land safely below. It ended tragically.

Robert Overacker was 39 years old and from Camarillo, California. On October 1, 1995, he arrived in Niagara Falls to perform a stunt to raise awareness of the homeless problem. He planned to jet ski over the falls on the Canadian side, release his parachute and land safely.

Overacker entered the Niagara River near Canada's Niagara Power Plant and began riding a jet ski toward Horseshoe Falls. At the edge of the waterfall, he threw away the jet ski and had to open his parachute. But he didn’t open up.

Shortly after the jump, Overacker's body was discovered by the excursion boat Maid of the Mist. Crew members brought the body on board and tried to resuscitate it, but it was too late.

The deadly stunt was witnessed by his brother and a friend who were filming the video.

Although the footage does not show the aftermath of the jump, it initially appeared that Overacker had survived the stunt, but later it was suspected that the rapids were rocking the corpse, creating the impression that the person was floating.

Since this incident, there have been six other incidents of people going over the falls, intentionally or not, and two of them have died as a result.

Horseshoe Falls is a section of Niagara Falls in Canada.

Another reckless daredevil after Robert Overacker was Kirk Jones, who deliberately went over the waterfall twice.

The first occurred in 2003, when he became the first person to survive an unassisted fall, swimming from 91m before going over a waterfall. He had previously been drinking with friends and was subsequently fined $2,300 and banned from entering Canada for life, although he claimed it was a suicide attempt.

In April 2017, he again went swimming over the falls on an inflatable ball. The ball was soon recovered by the Maid of the Mist, and Kirk Jones' body was discovered off Lake Ontario in Canada two months later.
