A 2-year-old dog ended up in a shelter when her owners abandoned her. Downtrodden, modest and anxious, she really waited for someone to walk through the doors of the shelter and take her home - but this did not happen. So the years passed until one day a miracle happened.

The dog named Ginger was 2 years old when she ended up in a shelter in the US state of Missouri. Her previous owners abandoned her to the mercy of fate, but the kind shelter staff decided to help her. She was anxious, downtrodden, modest, and had little trust in people. Because of his “introverted” personality, no one wanted to take the dog from the shelter - after all, more often than not, people prefer sociable and emotional dogs. Despite this, the shelter staff hoped that homes would be quickly found for young Ginger. But they were wrong.

"Hi, I'm Ginger. I've been here for 7 years and 9 months. I'm a good girl, really! I just need a second chance."

For years, Ginger sadly watched as her relatives were taken from the shelter and replaced by other dogs. She sincerely believed that someday her future owners would come through the doors of the shelter. So seven whole years passed. But Ginger still did not lose hope. Her fur turned slightly gray, she began to sleep more, play less, and became an older dog - but still believed that her person was somewhere nearby.

In 2020, shelter animal advocate Scott Poore learned about Ginger. He began sharing her story wherever possible - he really wanted “before she left this world, she would understand what true love and a caring owner are.” And it worked! Many people started getting in touch asking about Ginger. Among them was a girl named Beth, who volunteered to take the dog to her place and give it a new life.

When Ginger finally moved into her new home with her owner, she began to blossom. She felt what it was like to be a beloved pet and her sweet personality began to emerge. From a downtrodden dog she turned into a happy beauty.

"Ginger has definitely changed. At first she was very shy and didn't trust anyone. But now she's become more open and brave. Seeing her jump on the bed and just be herself is amazing. She's not a fragile shelter dog anymore." Beth says.

Ginger is already 13 years old, but her real life began only 3 years ago. Next to her new owner, she forgot her past and felt like a little puppy again. And Beth herself did not expect that this dog would change her life so much. When Beth took her, she herself suffered from anxiety and was experiencing difficulties in life - but Ginger gave her security and stability.

"The most important thing Ginger taught me is that you can always start over. No matter what life throws at you, tomorrow will be better. You can't grow in the same place that broke you. Now we are growing together with her, " says Beth.
