Photos that were the last in the lives of their heroes (11 photos)
The most ordinary photographs taken at a time when no one could have thought that the person photographed would soon die.
Man is suddenly mortal, as we remember. And these photos are an excellent illustration of the unpredictability of the old woman with a scythe. Ulli Lust wrote: “Today is the last day of the rest of your life.” And indeed it is.
Kelly Ann Fleming
This photo of a joyful Kelly was taken a few weeks before the Columbine school shooting.
On April 20, 1999, two high school students came to school and carried out a mass shooting. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris killed one teacher and 12 students. 23 students were injured.
The shooters, after the massacre they carried out, committed suicide.
James Dean
One of the most handsome American actors in golden Hollywood, stands next to his Porsche 550 Spyder, which he bought just nine days ago. James in this photo is only 24 years old and he was incredibly popular even then.
But on the exact day this photo was taken, September 30, 1955, the Porsche collided with another car at an intersection.
James Dean became the first and only actor to receive two posthumous Oscar nominations.
Jenni Rivera
Jenny was a Latin singer. The private Learjet 25, where she was in the company of six other people, lost control 15 minutes after takeoff. On December 9, 2012, the plane hit the surface with force and there was no chance of surviving there.
At that time, Jenny had five children and two grandchildren.
Michael Lemaitre
Michael in the photo is 65 years old. He was physically tough and strong and took part in a mountain run in Seward, Alaska. He was last spotted on July 4, 2012, sixty meters from the top of Mount Marathon (altitude about 1000 meters above sea level).
The judge saw Lemaitre rise to the turning point and checked his number. The words "548" were the last words heard from Michael. Since then, no one has seen Lemaitre himself, his clothes, or any traces at all.
60 rescuers searched for the athlete; they scanned the mountain up and down from a helicopter with infrared radiation. But Michael Lemaitre was never found.
Amoni Malelu
In August 2023, Amoni, a fisherman from Samoa, tried to pull the body of a dead dolphin from the water. Local residents complained many times about the unpleasant odor from the water and the fisherman decided to help.
Amoni's father insisted that he do it using a canoe, but Amoni put on a breathing tube and fins and plunged into the water. A 41-year-old fisherman was attacked by several sharks at once and a few hours later the man died in hospital.
Cheyenne Antoine and Britney Gargol
Britney (right) and Cheyenne (left) posted this photo together on social media. That same night, Cheyenne put a belt around her friend's neck and strangled her. The belt, by the way, is also visible in the photo.
The girl claimed that she did not remember at all how she did it, since they were very drunk. But she still pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Cheyenne Antoine was sentenced to seven years in prison.
Marco Siffredi
This French climber became the first to snowboard from the top of Everest at -35°C.
Marco made this breathtaking descent in 2001, driving down the mountain through the Norton Couloir. A year later, he wanted to do the trick again, this time through the Hornbein Couloir. Siffredi climbed the eight-thousander for 12 hours and felt bad. Marco was exhausted and showed little enthusiasm for the upcoming descent. But, nevertheless, after resting for only an hour, Siffredi strapped on his snowboard and began to descend.
Nobody saw him again.
Geraldine Lagray
In 2013, Geraldine disappeared into the Maine woods. She got lost, but was still alivewithin 26 days after disappearance. It was only two years later that her body was discovered in a sleeping bag. Next to her lay the diary that she kept all the time she was alive.
Largay set herself a goal - to walk the Appalachian Trail (length 3,500 km), together with her friend. The tourist’s husband agreed that he would meet the women in previously agreed upon places to replenish their supplies of food and water. After some time, Geraldine's friend was forced to interrupt her trip (for family reasons) and Largay went on alone. At a certain point, she simply lost her way.
Geraldine's diary included an entry dated August 6, 2013: "When you find my body, please call my husband George and my daughter Kerry. No matter how many years later. Please find the strength to send the contents of this bag to one of them ".
By the time of recording, the woman had been wandering through the forest for two weeks.
A joyful photo was taken by one of the tourists whom Largey met along the way.
Robin Williams
In 2014, July 21, the actor published this photo on his birthday on social networks. It shows Robin smiling happily in the company of his pet monkey.
A few days later, Williams would be found in his bedroom. The actor hanged himself. Robin was tormented by progressive Parkinson's disease and the severe depression that developed against it. He decided to get ahead of the disease and not turn into a shell of a man falling apart before he finally died surrounded by doctors and hospital walls.
There is still no cure for Parkinson's disease.
Chester Bennington
This photo was taken by the wife of the Linkin Park lead singer the day before Chester committed suicide.
On July 20, 2017, the singer was found dead in his own home - he hanged himself.
For a long time, Bennington suffered from severe depression, which he could not cope with. This photo (like the photo of Robin Williams) is a clear example of the fact that very often a difficult emotional state is not visible and is carefully hidden. There is even a special term for this - “smiling depression”. It is this that often leads to suicide, since, unlike classical depression, a person has the strength to commit suicide.
