Firefighters cannot yet determine the cause of the fire. Residents of neighboring houses within a radius of 500 meters were advised not to leave their homes and not breathe in burnt plastic. Several people were reported injured, and Sahlgrenska University Hospital confirmed it had treated four people.
The water park was put out only in the evening. Local residents say that the city still smells of ash and burnt plastic.
The construction of the water park cost 1.2 billion euros. The giant attraction covered an area of 6,000 square meters indoors and 4,000 square meters outdoors. It was supposed to open very soon, but after the fire the opening will obviously have to be postponed. If construction had been completed, the park would have become one of the largest water attraction parks in Europe.
