Transforming a regular Porsche 911 into an off-road version will be 2 times cheaper than the factory version (11 photos)
The Danish studio Kalmar Automotive presented a comprehensive project for converting a Porsche 911 in the 996 body into a sports SUV. Modifications are available for the engine, chassis, body and interior, and the price of rebuilding a sports car starts from only 45 thousand euros. At the same time, a factory 911 Dakar will cost at least 220 thousand in Germany.
A reinforced suspension with custom springs and shock absorbers increases the ground clearance of the sports car to 210 mm. Optional adaptive dampers will add another 50 mm. The Porsche 911 is equipped with mud tires and underbody protection; for an additional fee, a safety cage and struts will be installed to make the body more rigid.
The basic version retains the original boxer engine with a volume of 3.4 liters, developing about 300 forces. However, Kalmar Automotive, at the request of the customer, can add approximately 200 more “horses” to the output. The motor operates with a manual or automatic transmission at the customer's choice.
All signs of civilization, such as a media system and sound insulation, are removed from the cabin. According to tuners, these little things distract from the fun while driving. Instead, they install Recaro seats or racing buckets. The Kalmar RS-6 body can be equipped with an expeditionary trunk, an external mount for a spare wheel and an LED beam. In addition, the company is ready to paint the coupe in any color, including a variety of liveries.
A donor Porsche 911 996 in decent condition can be purchased in Europe for about 20–30 thousand euros; another 45 thousand to 50 thousand will be required for reconstruction. So, thanks to Kalmar Automotive, you can get your hands on an off-road 911 for less than half the price of the factory version. However, you will have to wait: tuners budget for the construction of each “SUV” for at least six months.
