A Japanese writer wins a literary award for a novel she wrote using ChatGPT.
Rie Kudan wrote a novel, Tokyo Tower of Sympathy, which is about the future. A skyscraper tower is being built in the capital's Shinjuku Park, designed to comfortably accommodate criminals. The main character of the work, a female architect, is dissatisfied with society’s attitude towards prisoners: the environment believes that “criminals are also people who deserve sympathy.” In addition, the heroine challenges the growing influence of artificial intelligence. But, as it turned out, Rie did not write the book herself.
“The novel was written using artificial intelligence text generation technologies such as ChatGPT,” the writer said. “Perhaps about five percent of the sentences in the text were generated and used without modification.”
Kudan said that she will continue to use artificial intelligence in the future to further develop her creativity.
