A wave of mud demolished the only bridge in an Argentine town (4 photos + 1 video)
Heavy rains in northern Argentina led to powerful flows of water and mud demolishing entire bridges. In the chilling video, filmed in the province of Catamarca, a group of residents watch the raging Rincon River. Suddenly a powerful wave of water, mud and rocks hits and destroys the only bridge.
The roaring river tore off the bridge and carried him away.
Eyewitnesses could only scream in horror as they watched the structure quickly disappear in the flow of water. Those standing too close to the edge were forced to flee as muddy waters began to rise and flood the paths.
It was the only bridge connecting Rincon, with a population of less than 600 people, to neighboring villages.
Ricardo Lezcano, a resident of the neighboring town of Saugil, noted that the bridge opened just over a month ago.
The Rincon bridge was one of two lost in recent flooding in the region.
“Intense rains over the past few hours have caused powerful flows on the Rincon and Sijan rivers,” the Catamarca government said in a statement.
Fortunately, there were no casualties.
Civil defense forces were called in to help residents.
