Actors from "Harry Potter" at the beginning of their careers (15 photos)

26 December 2023

More than 20 years have passed since the release of the very first Harry Potter film. It's incredible how quickly time flew by. And despite the passing years, millions of people still organize Potter marathons and watch all the films in the franchise with great pleasure. And, of course, they add nostalgia. Let's see what the actors from "Harry Potter" looked like at the beginning of their careers.

Robbie Coltrane

Robbie Coltrane as the good-natured Hagrid in one of his first films, Krull (1983).

Ralph Fiennes

Ralph Fiennes as the most dangerous and powerful wizard in the Potter series and in one of his first films, Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia (1992).

Maggie Smith

Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts School Minerva McGonagall and Sarah Watkins in the film The Honey Pot (1967). It's all Maggie Smith.

Jim Broadbent

Jim Broadbent as Professor Slughorn in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and early in his career in The Sweet Life (1990). By the way, he starred there with his Potter colleagues David Thewlis and Timothy Spall.

David Thewlis

Many people remember Professor Lupine in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. But few people saw David Thewlis at the beginning of his career, in the film Short Hair and Curls (1987).

Timothy Spall

Timothy Spall as the Dark Lord's henchman Peter Pettigrew in the Red Dwarf series (1988).

Emma Thompson

Emma Thompson, who played Professor Trelawney in Potter, and she was also at the beginning of her career in the series “Alfresco” (1983-1984).

Ian Hart

The role of Ian Hart in The Philosopher's Stone was small, but no less significant. It’s all the more interesting to see him in the role of John Lennon in the 1994 film “The Beatles: Four Plus One (Fifth in the Quartet).”

Kenneth Branagh

Kenneth Branagh as Goldsmith Lockhart in the second part of the Potter series. And in one of his early roles in the film “A Month in the Country” (1987).

Brendan Gleeson

Brendan Gleeson first appeared as Alastor Moody in the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Much earlier, he starred in Mel Gibson's drama Braveheart (1995).

Imelda Staunton

Imelda Staunton plays the malevolent Dolores Umbridge early in her career in Much Ado About Nothing (1993).

Jason Isaacs

Check out Jason Isaacs in his early film Dragonheart (1996) and as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series. It seems he hasn't changed much.

John Hurt (Olivander)

John Hurt, who played wand maker Ollivander in the Harry Potter film series, is very difficult to recognize in A Man for All Seasons (1966).

Julie Walters

Julie Walters as Mrs. Weasley and early in her career in the 1983 film Educating Rita.

Alan Rickman

One of Alan Rickman's first roles was as Tybalt in the 1978 Shakespeare production of Romeo and Juliet.
