American Colton Pifer from Monroe, Michigan, was about 18 years old when he first pierced his nasal septum with a 16-gauge needle. Later, he independently stretched the hole to 2.6 cm, creating the largest “tunnel” in the nasal septum (among men) in the world.

This incredible achievement officially entered the Guinness Book of Records on August 17.

“The first piercing wasn’t scary at all,” says Colton. “It was a standard puncture using tweezers and a hollow needle.”

The only sensations are a slight tingling during the process, and then pain at the puncture site for about a week. It was only five years after the piercing that Colton began to stretch the hole in his nasal septum. And gradually I realized that I had achieved great success in this.

He rarely met people whose nose tunnel was larger than his. And he tried to surpass everyone by stretching the hole to the maximum. After looking at the achievements of the previous Guinness record holder, Colton realized that he himself was very close to breaking the record.

“As I kept stretching the hole, I thought, 'I wonder how much bigger it can get,' and that eventually turned into, 'I wonder if I can make it the biggest in the world.' And then I decided that I would try to do this,” he says.

Colton realized that he could potentially become a Guinness World Record holder when he increasingly began to hear from people that they had never seen anything like it.

“I got to a certain size and was about to stop, but a lot of people kept asking and telling me things. I became curious and decided to find out about the world record,” he admits.

Colton was especially motivated by his uncle Josh, who has been involved in body modification for many years.

“I always looked up to him and thought what he did was really cool,” Colton says. “He has a lot more modifications than I do, like horn implants and things like that, but if it weren’t for him, I would never have gotten into body modifications or started stretching my septum.”

According to Colton, the process of stretching the “tunnel” was painful. After the tunnel reaches a certain size, the jewelry begins to put pressure on the cartilage in the nose, creating not the most pleasant sensations.

“The process is similar to stretching the tunnels in the ears,” says Colton. “Insert a slightly larger piece of jewelry, wait a while, and repeat.”

With the nasal septum, however, things are a little longer and more complicated because the cartilage is harder and takes longer to stretch. Not to mention it is much more painful and takes longer to heal.

Colton has to make custom nose jewelry because he can't find anything that fits in stores. Also, one of the disadvantages, according to him, is that drinking from cans or eating sandwiches is quite inconvenient; decorations get in the way. You have to use a straw or a knife and fork. Colton is not ready to give up his bulky nose jewelry: he believes that they make him unique.

Small disadvantages, according to Colton, do not count. There are many more advantages: there is a strong reaction to him both on the street and on the Internet, people stop him on the street and ask to take a photo, and in general there are much more positive reactions than negative ones.

“I made a lot of new friends just because they were wondering what that thing was up my nose,” Colton laughs. “The reaction of young children is also priceless. They always look at me and say exactly what they think. This is cool".

Colton loves to surprise the public. He has several signature party routines, which he enjoys performing with the help of his nose “tunnel.”

“My favorite thing to do is pull out the jewelry and stick the sausage into the tunnel,” he says. “And I like to stick my thumb in there.” It always gets people excited."

Colton believes that his body modification defines him as a person and reminds him to continue to push his boundaries.

“Even if it seems that you have reached the end, you can always take a step forward. This applies not onlyabout piercings, and in general everything in life,” he says. “When I first started stretching it, I had no idea I’d get to this size.”

Maybe that’s why Colton didn’t stop, even after receiving the title of record holder, and continues to stretch the “tunnel” in his nasal septum.

He advises those interested in such body modifications to take their time.

“Many people are in too much of a hurry. Patience is the key to success, says Colton. — Everything needs to be done gradually. I use adhesive bondage tape which is skin friendly. I wrap one layer around the jewelry that fits in the nasal septum, wear it for a while and repeat until I can insert the next size jewelry.”

In the future, Colton would like to set another body modification record.

“Maybe it will be the most number of piercings on the body or another stretched piercing,” he says. — I love body modifications. They're so cool and it's one of my passions."
