December is the month of summing up the results of the whole year. In other words, it’s the perfect time to find out who distinguished himself the most. This time we take a look into the world of sports. The International Association of Athletics Federations has summed up the results of the year and announced the finalists of the 2023 Athlete of the Year competition. The World Athletics Council and concerned fans took part in the voting. The year really turned out to be very rich in records and achievements. Let's see which girls have achieved impressive sporting achievements.

Haruka Kitaguchi (Japan)





The 25-year-old javelin thrower won a gold medal at the world championships in Budapest this year. The athlete improved her result of 66.73 meters by increasing her throw to 67.38 meters at the Diamond League competition.

Nominees: Winfried Yavi (Bahrain)



This year, the athlete, who specializes in steeplechase, won 4 gold medals: at the Arab Games in Algeria, at the Asian Games in China (1500 and 3000 m) and at the World Championships in Budapest.

Gudaf Tsegay (Ethiopia)





At the Diamond League finals in Eugene (USA), she set a new world record in the 5000 m with a time of 14:00:21.

Maria Perez (Spain)



The athlete’s last victory was a world record in race walking at the European Team Championship (35 km in 2:37:15).

This fashionista won the women's 100-meter race at the USA Track and Field Championships, running the distance in 10.82 seconds. And at the World Championships, she broke her own record, taking gold - the 100-meter race in 10.65 seconds.

The high jumper won gold at the European Indoor Championships, the World Championships in Budapest and the Diamond League in the USA.

Femke Bol (Netherlands)



The athlete won gold at the World Championships in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.70 seconds. She also set a record in the 400 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul with a score of 49.85.

Tigist Assefa (Ethiopia)



Tagist broke the world record at the Berlin Marathon, becoming the first woman to complete the course in 2 hours 11 minutes 53 seconds.

Sherica Jackson (Jamaica)



Sherika won a gold medal at the World Championships in the 200m. She also won the Diamond League in the 100m and 200m this year.

Faith Kipyegon (Kenya)



At the world championships, she took gold in the 1500 and 5000 m distances, setting world records with these victories.
