TOP 15 dishes from different countries that were recognized as the worst in 2023 (15 photos)
Well, let's continue to summarize the past year. And this time we will literally talk about “taste”, since we are talking about food. The editors of the TasteAtlas website decided to dive into the world of cooking and compile the TOP 15 most tasteless dishes in 2023. Some positions on the list were even justified. But there are also dishes that I want to cross off from this list. What do you think are the dishes that ended up in this ranking undeservedly?
Gomme (Norway) - 15th place
Gomme is a traditional Norwegian delicacy, mainly served on holidays. It is a type of sweet cheese, used as a spread on bread or as a dessert on its own. It is prepared from milk, cottage cheese and whey with the addition of aromatic spices - vanilla, cardamom, cinnamon. The ingredients must be simmered for a long time until they reach a soft consistency.
Basel Flour Chowder (Switzerland) – 14th place
A hot dish that consists of a minimum of ingredients. To prepare the soup, which many Swiss people adore, you will need rye or wheat flour, water and onions. The flour must be fried in a frying pan, add fried onions, add water (or broth) and cook everything together for an hour over low heat.
Mango gazpacho (Spain) – 13th place
Gazpacho is a cold soup traditionally made from fresh vegetables. However, the Spaniards also came up with the idea of making it from sweet mango. By the way, tomatoes, garlic and tomato juice are also added to this version of the recipe. This is such an unusual combination of sour and sweet.
Fried spiders (Cambodia) – 12th place
Exotic lovers will not mind crunching on a spider fried in aromatic spices. However, there are not so many such brave souls. Most often, people are simply afraid of this unusual delicacy.
Anicini cookies (Italy) – 11th place
Not everyone likes dense cookies with the addition of anise because of their texture and overly spicy aroma.
Baked endive with ham (France) – 10th place
The dish is usually made with a combination of endive (a cabbage-like plant), lemon juice, milk, flour, butter, slices of ham, nutmeg, Neufchatel cheese, salt and black pepper.
Sandwich with Marmite paste and chips (New Zealand) - 9th place
Marmite is a very salty sandwich spread that is produced in Australia and New Zealand. It is a popular breakfast item spread on bread or toast. New Zealanders have come up with the idea of supplementing their sandwiches with crispy chips in different flavors.
Horse meat sandwich (Spain) – 8th place
The baguette is cut in half and filled with pieces of fried or grilled horse meat. This dish is usually served with a glass of cold beer or red wine, a cup of coffee, olives and peanuts.
Cabbage and cauliflower soup (Türkiye) – 7th place
This is a traditional Turkish soup. It is made with shredded cabbage, green lentils (or beans), bulgur wheat, chicken broth, onion, tomato sauce and olive oil. The soup is boiled until all ingredients are soft. It is served hot, garnished with chopped parsley and mint.
Portmanteau calzone (Sweden) – 6th place
The name of this strange dish translates to “big food.” Consists of a hamburger bun, various pizza toppings, chips or fries. Often baked with ham.
Chapalele (Chile) - 5th place
These are traditional buns that are made from baked potatoes (boiled) and wheat flour.
Sklandrausis (Latvia) - 4th place
These are rather strange-looking pies with potatoes and carrots, which are served chilled. Aromatic spices or sugar are sprinkled on top.
Ramen burger (USA) - 3rd place
This type of burger replaces the traditional sesame bun with fried ramen noodles.
Jerusalem kugel (Israel) – 2nd place
This is a savory casserole made with thin boiled noodles coated in caramelized sugar. For this dish, they do not spare black pepper.
Haukartl (Iceland) - 1st place
Haukartl is a national delicacy of Iceland, made from the dried flesh of the Greenland shark. To begin with, the meat is fermented for up to three months, and then hung and left to dry for another four to five months. Many people hate this dish because of its disgusting smell. What can we say about the taste?
