Who is Pigalitsa, which is what little girls are called (5 photos)
Probably at least once in her life a short woman heard the word “pigalitsa” addressed to her. Sometimes combined with the pejorative "unfortunate." The nickname is offensive, especially if the girl has a complex about her height.
The expression is old and well-established, but few people know who the real pigtail is and where this expression came from. Actually, this is not an insult at all, but to our ancestors (and even to those who now live in villages) this is generally a familiar word.
This is a bird better known as the lapwing. The bird is really miniature - its body length is 30 cm, and it weighs only 200 grams. The back and breast of the pigtail are greenish, with a purple sheen. On the back of her head she has a crest of several narrow feathers, her legs are pink, and her beak is dark.
Pigalitsa is widespread in Russia from the Primorsky Territory to the western borders of the country. It is usually found in riverine meadows, swamps without hummocks, and in tall grass in the forest-steppe and steppe zones. The closest relative of the pigtail is the sandpiper. It is also called pigalka (from “peek”, “pig”), meadow and tsigalitsa.
The bird prefers to dine on insects and sometimes treats itself to seeds. It has different varieties, but in general they are quite similar to each other.
Quite a pretty piglet, modest in behavior, discreet in color, but the funny name stuck to the girls as an offensive nickname.
