Sometimes a chance meeting between a person and an animal can result in great friendship. Or even into a story that will become known to millions of people.
Gene Fleming, who lives in Nebraska, always wanted to help animals and save them. In 1959, he came up with a way to make life easier for cows: special scratchers so that they can relieve itching on the sides and at the same time Apply insect repellent to your body.
And in 1988, on his daughter-in-law's farm, he met Andy the goose. Unfortunately, the gosling was born with almost no legs and Fleming could calmly watch as he unsuccessfully tried to walk along with his brothers.
Gene took it upon himself to help Andy and at first he tried to put him down for something vaguely reminiscent of a skateboard, but the goose couldn’t adapt to this innovation. And then Fleming came up with the idea of putting it on a goose children's sneakers. It was thanks to them that Andy, waddled funny, began to walk. Goose became a real local celebrity, and Nike provided Andy with a lifetime supply of sneakers because they're quite quickly (within one month) they became unusable.
Andy's life began to sparkle with new colors. He could run, live full life, but... in 1991 the body of the unfortunate goose was found in park. And he clearly did not die a natural death.
During the investigation, it became clear that the criminal made his way to the territory of Fleming's home, stole Andy, and then killed him. To him The head and wings were cut off, but the bird was identified by its sneakers.
Local authorities immediately announced a fundraiser for the capture criminal. In total we managed to collect 10 thousand dollars and it became a real record. The sheriff was pressured by angry residents the cities swore to find the killer and deal with him, but he was never found found...
