In China, found 12 painted tombs of the period of Kublai Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan (8 photos)

Archaeologists excavating in Shandong province in the east China, discovered 12 ancient tombs with skillful painting and carving, whose age is estimated at about 700 years. This was announced by a local institute of archeology.





The tombs belong to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) and this is one of the most important finds in the eastern Chinese province of all history. The Yuan dynasty was founded by the Mongol Khan Kublai, the grandson of famous conqueror Genghis Khan. According to the inscription found in burial complex, the tombs belong to the Guo family.







In one of these tombs with two burial chambers Archaeologists have unearthed beautifully preserved murals and frescoes from carved bricks - patterns were created using chisels and wooden hammers. You can still see magpies and tree branches on the frescoes - such drawings in Chinese culture are considered to bring good luck.





According to Li Ming, director of the Institute of Archeology, this is the most a large group of tombs with brick frescoes of the Yuan Dynasty, found in the province.

“The tombs are ordered and clearly planned, and some of their owners were related by blood, which provided us with new material for studying the systems of family cemeteries in Yuan Dynasty,” Li said.





During the excavations, more than 60 objects of clay and porcelain dishes, bronze mirrors, copper coins and other artifacts culture. The finds will help scientists to study porcelain produced in region and its environs during the Yuan Dynasty.

Kublai Khan, fifth Great Khan of the Mongol Empire and member ancient Mongolian obok (genus) Borjigin, ruled the empire from 1271 to 1368 year.
