Photographer captures how shock waves refract light around F-35C aircraft (5 photos)
F-35C stealth aircraft flying on a training route in southern California, was "caught" in the lens by one of the American photographers - and he got very impressive pictures.
The photographs show the effect that happens when the air around flying at transonic and even more so supersonic speed aircraft curves, contracting or expanding depending on whether how the air flow behaves in contact with different parts aircraft. These changes in pressure, in turn, change how light refracted - and these distortions are then clearly visible in the pictures.
