A cargo plane attempted to land at Taipei Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan as a powerful typhoon hit the airport.
The plane took off from Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok International Airport (HKG) and attempted to land three times before finally touching down on the runway.
During its descent, the plane began to lurch and then tilt due to strong winds. Its right wing then hit the ground, sending sparks flying into the air.
According to official information, there were no injuries as a result of the extreme landing.
However, the plane was seriously damaged and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
According to the incident report from the Aviation Safety Network, “UPS Flight 5X61, a Boeing 747-8F, was struck in the engine nacelle during a night landing on runway 05L at TPE International Airport.”
Upon arrival at TPE, strong gusty winds associated with Typhoon Podul were reported.
