The idea to live alone under water for 74 days to many seems like a sophisticated form of torture. However, one American professor University went for it voluntarily - and even established a new world record in progress.

In March, Professor Joseph Dituri, who became famous in Internet under the pseudonym Dr. Deep Sea, has already talked about his plans spend 100 days underwater, but now the scientist has a good reason for pride - he broke the record for life expectancy under water without depressurization. Its cramped but cozy underwater capsule is located in Florida at a depth of 9 meters below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of only 9 square meters. meters. Despite the modest size of the dwelling, Dituri managed to squeeze in a work area, a kitchen, a bathroom, two bedrooms and even a small "pool", which is also a kind of hallway for entering and exiting the capsule. Unlike submarine, the capsule does not use technology to adapt to increased underwater pressure.

According to Professor Dituri, his 74th day in the underwater capsule of Jules (in honor of Jules Verne) was not much different from all his other weekdays since he sank under water on March 1: he ate a rich protein food from eggs and salmon, cooked using a microwave stoves, worked out with expanders, did daily push-ups and an hour took a nap.

The previous record of 73 days, two hours and 34 minutes was installed by two professors from Tennessee - Bruce Cantrell and Jessica Fein - in the same place in 2014. But Professor Dituri has not yet ready to float to the surface, content with his record, he plans to remain in the capsule until June 9, when from the beginning of the mission, dubbed Project Neptune 100, 100 days will pass.

The mission combines medical and oceanic research as well as educational purposes and was organized by the Foundation development of marine resources, the owner of the capsule.

“This record is a small bonus, and I really appreciate it,” said Prof. Dituri, former US Navy officer and University lecturer South Florida PhD in Biomedical engineering. “It is a great honor for me, but we are not yet done with research"

“The idea is to populate the oceans, take care of it by living in it and treating it really well.” he added.

Information and educational part of the professor's mission Dituri includes online lessons and broadcasts from his digital studio underwater. Over the past 74 days, he has taught online courses on marine sciences for more than 2500 students, including their regular courses in biomedical engineering at the University of South Florida.

Although he says he enjoys living underwater, there are something he misses a lot: “Most of what is on surface, I miss the sun,” admitted Professor Dituri. - Sun plays an important role in my life - I usually go to the gym at five in the morning, and then I watch the sunrise on the way back.”

Интересная идея. Устройство поселений на морском дне будет отличным источником опыта для колонизации других планет.
