Biologists have discovered a species of frogs that disguise themselves as bird droppings (3 photos)

In the wild, there are different ways to survive. Somebody has tremendous power, someone is armed to the teeth, and someone has learned become invisible. New species of frog discovered in Papua New Guinea, pretending to be bird droppings, so as not to become the prey of predators.





Australian scientists have discovered a new species of frog Litoria naispela. These reptiles disguise themselves as bird droppings to scare away predators. To make this discovery, biologist Steve Richards took over 30 years.

Frogs of this species live in humid forest areas. Papua New Guinea. Interestingly, the babies of these frogs are brown, and adults are dark green.

Litoria naispela also has juveniles, coloration and the pattern of which is very reminiscent of bird droppings - we think that this is a form protection, - said the scientist in the journal Zootaxa.

One of the notable features of these frogs is the fact that they all lay their eggs in the water accumulated in the hollows of trees, which scientists say is more typical of tree frog species.

Over the past 30 years, the scientist has discovered four new species frogs - Litoria daraiensis, Litoria gracilis, Litoria haematogaster and Litoria lisae. Richards says:

I spent a huge amount of time waiting at night near hollow trees in the rain, hail, by the light of the moon, when the frogs appear, to find these amazing species and try to explore them.

New Guinea has more frog species than any other island in the world, and most of them are found nowhere else.
