Sisters from Dagestan fled to Georgia from their relatives, who published on them and wanted to marry them
All four sisters are from the village of Khadzhalmakhi in Dagestan. The girls claim that in childhood they were female circumcised, they were subjected to violence by relatives, they tried to force one of them to marry a cousin. The girls tried to escape to Georgia, but they were detained at the checkpoint.
The fact that the four sisters are at the Upper Lars checkpoint on the border of Russia and Georgia from the Russian side was told by human rights activists of the crisis group "SK SOS". Khadizhat and Patimat Khizriv (sisters), Aminat Gazimagomedova and Patimat Magomedova (second cousins) were held at the checkpoint. According to the girls, they were physically abused by their relatives, including female circumcision. The girls decided to run away after the parents decided to pass off one of the sisters as a cousin.
The girls themselves said that death awaits them in their homeland.
We were beaten, forced to marry, forbidden to receive education. We didn't want it, we wanted to leave, we wanted to live. This may be the last video, there is a high probability that we will be killed. We are from the village of Khadzhalmakhi, from Makhachkala. Girls have no rights there.
Photos of beaten girls also appeared on the network. One of them was beaten by her mother because she doubted that her daughter had prayed.
At the checkpoint, the girls were kept, allegedly because of debts. After submitting corrections about the absence of debts, the checkpoint staff referred to the management’s decision, calling the detention a “filtration measure”. A lawyer tried to get through to the sisters, but he was detained for "petty hooliganism."
The girls begged not to let their relatives in, but the riot police ignored their requests.
In the video below, cousin and mother Patimat and Khadizhat persuade the girls to return home.
I wore them in my arms as a child. What are you saying? What do you know? - Patimat and Khadijat's cousin turns to the lawyer.
“Girls, look, please,” the mother adds.
Fortunately, the girls managed to get to Georgia. Human rights activists agreed with the Georgian police on support. An escort group took the fugitives to a shelter in Tbilisi. But they will not feel completely safe soon - the desire of relatives to return “their girls” at any cost is too great.
