A homeless cat and dog escaped the cold together and ended up in a shelter together (5 photos)
Three weeks ago in Virginia, a passerby accidentally saw a street cat and dog sitting in the corner of a fenced football field.
A black cat and a small black dog huddled closely together, escaping the autumn cold.
A passerby told someone about the poor strays or wrote on social networks, and Angela Ward and her daughter found out about the cat and dog. They decided to save the animals.
“We are all very big animal lovers and could not leave this problem like that. In addition, coyotes often run into our area and they could attack them,” says Angela.
But when the women found the dog and the cat and tried to take them away, the dog stepped forward and, protecting the cat, began to growl at the people. The cat continued to sit in his place at this time.
Then Angela turned to animal control for help and when the officer arrived on the scene, he was able to quickly and carefully catch the cat and dog and take them to the veterinary clinic.
Upon examination, everything was fine with the animals, only the dog was very scared. The clinic decided not to separate the friends, and the dog and cat sat next to each other.
Soon the Saver of Souls Pet Rescue community learned about the unusual couple and decided to help them find a new home together, which is much more difficult than for each individual.
"They seem to be very dependent on each other. They are such cute furry friends and we can't keep them apart."
The dog, which turned out to be a cross with a Chihuahua, was given the nickname Gomez, and the cat was named Martisha. Both names are from The Addams Family TV series.
Gomez turned out to be completely non-aggressive and even shy. But he had an excellent relationship with Martisha and they even slept next to each other.
Now Gomez and Martisha are in a temporary foster family. Soon they will be sterilized and then they will begin to look for a permanent owner who will decide to take two pets at once. It will be difficult, but not impossible, volunteers say.
No one knows how Gomez and Marticia became friends. Did they previously live in the same family and or met each other on the street? But they have a very close relationship.
