How an 18+ book is born (46 photos)
A NedoSMI correspondent went to the printing house to find out how a book is born. And so that the material would not be boring, I chose a hotter book for the photographs.

Typically, the second photo in a report should show a general view so that readers can imagine the place where everything is happening. This is what a modern printing complex looks like.
Every book starts with a roll of paper
This is a roll offset printing machine "Book - 70"
It prints 30 thousand sheets per hour, on both sides at once
Half the text on the sheet is upside down
Then the sheets are folded (folded)...
in notebooks
The next machine forms a stack of notebooks. Then it is crimped so that the block is not plump
In this form they arrive at the bookbinding shop for sewing...
to the pretty booklet makers of the "Multiplex" thread sewing line
30 collating stations can collect a block of 30 notebooks in one run.
Each notebook has its own number. Our book consists of 18 notebooks. You will soon find out why a black mark is needed.
Notebooks are laid out in a certain order by number in feeders...
and are automatically selected into the block
The selected blocks are sent to one of the sewing machines
Here they are
Needles punch holes in notebooks and stitch them together
If the book block is assembled correctly, then the numbering follows a “ladder”.
At the end of the line, the blocks are automatically stacked on a pallet
Meanwhile, at the other end of the workshop, another important part of the book is being manufactured - the cover.
A cardboard cutting machine cuts out the sides for the lid
Ready sides
The cover consists of two sides (front and back) and a spine
The corners of the cover sheets are cut off...
and loaded into a machine that forms the finished caps.
And these are the endpapers - the inside of the cover.
Using a special machine, the endpaper is glued to the blocks and treated with hot-melt adhesive.
Block with glued endpaper. In this book he is red
Glued blocks undergo natural drying on a conveyor
After the endpaper has been glued to the book and the spine has been processed, it needs to be dried. Two lines are built according to the spiral principle (their length is 25 meters), which greatly saves space in the workshop
Three-knife cutting "Diamond" cuts the block on three sides
After this, the blocks move onto the insert into the lid
Our book without a ribbon (bookmark) and a device with multi-colored ribbons passes by
Insertion line. The first number on the screen is the productivity of books per hour, the second is the number of books made per shift
Supply of caps. In seconds, the covers and blocks will meet.
Almost finished books
Only the spine is straight
Another moment and it becomes its usual shape. A special device compresses the spine and stacks the books.
On this line, a pack of books can be packed in shrink film, but with ours it’s a different story
The pallet is ready
Books are taken to the next workshop
They are packaged on this machine...
in individual shrink film and...
According to the new law, a warning "18+" is placed. According to rumors, the book contains profanity and something else completely unchildish.
This is how it will arrive in the store.
I was accompanied by two security guards throughout the shoot. When I moved the lens too close to the book, the muzzles of machine guns would press into my back. At some point, I managed to divert their attention and hide several defective pages. Having asked to go to the toilet, I greedily pounced on the text. The random passage I read shocked me... A cruel, scalpel-sharp expose of modern society tinged with black humor. Stunning, brilliant, incredibly exciting and extraordinary storytelling. A subtle and largely touching comedy with black humor. A big, ambitious, brilliant, daring, funny, stunning and masterfully written novel about modern England. It was scary to move on to the next page, but it was simply impossible to tear yourself away from reading to the sound of the guards breaking down the toilet door...
