On October 11, a flash flood occurred on the Budhi Gandaki River in Nepal. A torrent of mud and rocks washed away buildings in the Gorkha District and damaged bridges.
According to preliminary reports from the Nepalese Army, a landslide upstream blocked the riverbed. When the blockage breached, a flood wave surged downstream. Experts are still investigating the exact cause of the disaster.
Buildings belonging to the energy company Times Energy were severely damaged. Local residents managed to warn 18 project employees in time, who then moved to a safe elevation on their own. The army evacuated people from several settlements cut off by the water.
