A truck carrying chemicals exploded in a US restaurant parking lot

On August 5, 2026, a truck carrying about 2,300 gallons of a chemical used in spray foam production exploded in the parking lot of a Denny’s restaurant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
According to preliminary reports, the cause was a reaction between the chemical and water inside the tank, which caused pressure to spike rapidly and ruptured the rear of the tank.
No one was injured in the incident, but the chemical covered part of the parking lot and the restaurant building. The establishment was temporarily closed for cleanup.
