Much in movies differs from reality. Subconsciously, we understand that what's happening on screen is fiction. But the simplistic plot has given rise to many misconceptions. It's gotten to the point where some gullible viewers take what's happening at face value.

Chloroform puts you to sleep slowly

In reality, a person doesn't pass out instantly. To lose consciousness, a person would need to inhale a significant amount of chloroform vapor. In reality, a defibrillator can restart a heart if electrical impulses are still present (there's no pulse, but there's activity on the electrocardiogram). However, if the electrocardiogram shows a flat line, a defibrillator will destroy any remaining chances of resuscitation.
